D. Lee Hunnewell has been developing her techniques since she was a child sketching landscapes whenever she could. With a few night classes at Mass. College of Art she created most of the oil paintings and sketches found on this site. Then she got a studio in Lowell in 2015 and  continued to hone her craft with pallet knife acrylic work and fabric sculptures.

Picking back up again in 2018 she found fluid art with acrylic pour painting. She developed a new  way to apply paint with dialysis equipment her husband had been using as he waited for a kidney.  Four of those paintings were chosen and auctioned off by the National Kidney Foundation at their yearly fundraiser.  Pour painting was fun to do but the paintings did not sell as well as more realistic ones. Plus, that studio required a large room and big cleanup after projects.

Ever seeking to learn new things and new ways to apply old methods, she moved into resin. This was a brief foray for many reasons, but resin coatings on artwork are a wonderful ways to preserve them. Many of her vases (Day and Night vases), were sold a local store until they closed right before Covid.

When Covid hit,  Donna  needed to move out of her large studio.  When she moved into a smaller studio, with hardwood floors, she found alcohol ink. This medium uses similar principles of all the things done before and the colors are so vibrant!   She is currently exploring applying pallet knife, string pulls and many fluid art techniques to ink.

She has an Etsy store where you can purchase her artwork at Etsy/ArtbyVerdess
